the circle game

Before I get all deep... my two boys trapped inside on a snow day.

The snow has stopped.

The Olympics are on (and oh do I love the French language!).

(... ah yes, if you couldn't tell, we're not sunning ourselves on the beach in Mexico)

And, we attempt to get back to our lives. Unpredictable lives. But lives, that are ours,
nonetheless.

We celebrate a full life in the passing of my Aunt Judy today, and we celebrate a new life in the birth of our sweet friends the Rubners' little Anna Pearl.

Joni Mitchell may have had a different meaning of her lyrics in mind, but to me since I first started singing this rendition at Camp Manito-Wish (in between counting the meals and crying for my parents on Emily and Lisa's shoulders) they've always brought me back to what we can count on about life... it's a cycle, it's a circle, and we can control very little. So, we take responsibility for what we can control, surround ourselves around good people, and let the rest of the chips fall as they may.

"And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look
Behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game"

Hey, it was either Joni or the Lion King's Circle of Life and you know how I feel about Disney....

And, so, we laugh, and play, and go round and round and round in the circle game (wine helps in the twirling).

Go USA.

  1. reminds of of ecclesiastes 3:1-8

there is a time for everything
    and a season for every activity under heaven;
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter and a time to gather,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear down and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace...

i pray you will soon have a time of laughing and peace.
thank God for little people who keep us grounded and for the olympics to keep us distracted :)
